The PSDP represents an unprecedented effort by a broad cross-section of U.S. and Canadian pediatric institutions, foundations, and agencies to provide training for a cadre of young academicians who will translate research advances to clinical pediatrics.
About the Consortium
How the PSDP is funded
Because of the unique support from private foundations, all PSDP awards are issued as sub-contracts to the sponsoring (fellowship) institution. Weill Cornell Medicine has agreed that PSDP awards to its trainees and grants from its supporting agencies are processed through Weill Cornell Medicine's grants and contracts office.
Members of the consortium which have provided funding of positions are listed below. Each organization brings distinct expertise and a shared commitment to building the next generation of pediatrician-scientists.

Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairs (AMSPDC)
The primary sponsor of the PSDP, AMSPDC brings together chairs of pediatric departments at U.S. and Canadian medical schools to advance child health through education, research, and advocacy.

American Heart Association
The largest non-profit, non-governmental funder of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular research. The AHA funds a PSDP slot focused on congenital heart defects, single ventricle disease, and pediatric heart transplantation.

The AAP is dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. With over 67,000 members, it is the leading voice for pediatric care in the United States.

Founded in 1888, the APS is the oldest and most prestigious pediatric society in North America. It honors distinguished pediatric scientists and supports the development of future leaders in academic pediatrics.

Arthritis Foundation
The Arthritis Foundation is the Champion of Yes for people living with arthritis. It co-funds the new PSDP Rheumatology Slot, supporting research into juvenile arthritis and related autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases.

Burroughs Wellcome Fund
An independent private foundation dedicated to advancing the biomedical sciences. BWF funds one PSDP slot annually, helping early-career scientists develop as independent investigators in fields that need encouragement.

Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA)
CARRA is a network of pediatric rheumatology researchers dedicated to improving outcomes for children with rheumatic diseases. It co-funds the PSDP Rheumatology Slot alongside the Arthritis Foundation and RRF.

The CFF is the world's leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis. It funds research, drug development, and care programs that have dramatically extended the lives of people with CF — including through PSDP-trained scientists.

March of Dimes leads the fight for the health of all moms and babies. A long-standing PSDP partner, it supports research into birth defects, premature birth, and maternal and infant health outcomes.

Rheumatology Research Foundation
The Rheumatology Research Foundation is the largest private funder of rheumatology research and training in the U.S. It co-funds the new PSDP Rheumatology Slot with a focus on juvenile arthritis and autoimmune disease.

Funding model & administration
AMSPDC & Weill Cornell Medicine
The PSDP is sponsored by The Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairs (AMSPDC). Weill Cornell Medicine serves as the administrative home and has agreed that all PSDP awards to its trainees and grants from supporting agencies are processed through its grants and contracts office.
Federal & foundation funding model
Because of unique support from private foundations, all awards are issued as sub-contracts to the sponsoring (fellowship) institution. This collaborative structure — combining NIH K12 funding with private foundation partners — is what makes PSDP's breadth and longevity possible.
Rheumatology Slot — three-way partnership
A new Rheumatology Slot is funded jointly by the Arthritis Foundation, the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA), and the Rheumatology Research Foundation (RRF), focusing on juvenile arthritis, autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases, biomarkers, and health disparities.
